The SleepMates do not loop like other machines. By looping we mean playing a short recorded segment of sound over and over. Don't underestimate how important it is to have a sound machine that doesn't loop. If you can detect a repetitive quality in the sound, then that can be more annoying than the noise you are trying to mask. Again, the Sleep Mate is one of the few machines made that does not loop. The only difference between the 980 and 580 is that the 980 has a low and high speed whereas the 580 only has one speed that is identical to the high speed of the 980. There are two models of 980 to choose from: Sleep Mate and Sound Screen (see the pull down menu below). These two models are identical except for the name.
