The White Noise Sleep Aid SleepMate 980 produces a fan like white noise sound that most people find quite pleasing and effective. This sleep aid produces its sound with an actual motor so the sound produced is a "real" sound and not electronically recorded and reproduced. The Sleepmate 980 sleep aid has been around for a long time, largely unchanged since the 1960s, and is the most popular of all white noise sleep aids. One shortcoming of the Sleepmate 980 is that it generates only one kind of sound. If you like a variety of sounds, a sleep aid like the Sound Oasis S-650 would be a good choice since it makes a large variety of quality sounds played through a superior speaker.

The SleepMate 980 does not have a volume control but has a two speed switch that allows you to choose between a high speed medium volume setting and a softer low speed setting. If you think you will want a machine that produces a higher volume then we would recommend one of the electronic White Noise Machines that plays an amplified sound through a speaker.
